  • Day 5 Sitka - Taste of Sitka

    Duration: 2hr 30 min

    Available: Day 5 11:00 am

Activity Level: Mild - Full participation may require leisurely walking over primarily even surfaces. There may be a limited number of steps, a minimal amount of cobblestones or uneven surfaces, and some standing for extended periods of time.

    Overview

Your adventure begins with a narrated coach ride to the Sitka Sound Science Center. Once you arrive, listen to a guide as they tell you about the commercial fishing industry in Sitka and how the hatchery keeps it alive. Touch and see the creatures of the sea that call Sitka Sound home. You’ll then reboard the motor coach for a quick five-minute drive to the University of Alaska for a picturesque photo stop. The University of Alaska is the site of a World War II military base and airfield, where your guide will share some history with you. Reboard the motor coach to the Channel Club. At the Channel Club relax and enjoy mountainous views of Mt Edgecumbe while you sip on locally brewed beer paired with a sample of Wild Alaskan Salmon and rice.

    Highlights

    • Sitka Sound Science Center: Encounter sea urchins, starfish, rockfish, eels and salmon among aquariums and a hatchery.
